This Woman's Leggings Trick Can Transform the Look of Your Hips and Butt

[ad_1]

Sia Cooper is all about debunking the hacks influencers use to make themselves look “perfect,” and her latest post is no exception. Earlier this week, Cooper posted an Instagram on how high-rise leggings shape, contour, and hide the “bulge” around her hips and belly.

RELATED: These Are the Leggings Celebs Are Obsessed With

In the post, the fitness influencer showed a series of photos demonstrating just how dramatic her body changes when she puts on the leggings. She then urged followers to notice all the other social media stars who don leggings in their selfies as well, using this trick to hide what they view as body imperfections.

“Pay close attention next time you start scrolling and lemme know, alright?” she said. “There’s nothing wrong with you-nobody is perfect. Some of us just hide it better than others.”

Cooper provides an even closer look in a video of this transformation. Complete with her daughter “having a meltdown” off-camera, she revealed a more vulnerable moment to help her followers feel better about their bodies. With just a simple adjustment, her red pants completely change her shape.

RELATED: These High-Waisted Workout Leggings Flatter Any Shape—and Never, Ever Fall Down

“I was inspired after seeing the trend of many fitness personalities sporting these high-waisted pants,” she tells Health. “It gives an illusion of a smaller waist and a bigger butt, so I wanted to show people how it’s done.”

Whether you opt for Cooper’s leggings trick or not, it's good to know about this sneaky tactic people use in their perfectly curated fitspo posts. Rather than compare ourselves to the unreal photos we see all over social media, we should love the skin we’re in—whether or not it’s compressed by your favorite workout pants.

How to Find the Best Swimsuit for Your Body

[ad_1]

Finding the perfect one-piece or bikini can be daunting, but with so many styles to choose from these days, the hunt for the perfect suit doesn’t have to be that bad.

Whether you’re looking for one that provides just the right amount of coverage or prefer the “less is more” philosophy, we asked two stylists on how best to embrace our best beach looks ever. Check out their tips below:

Athletic Figure

If you’re long and lean, but want to add curves, look for a swimsuit that showcases a current couture trend. “Peplums are not only super popular for clothing, but swim as well,” explains Chelsey Davidson of ModCloth.com. “This flirty style will help to add some volume to your lower half, making your waist look smaller, all while also adding a feminine touch.”

ModCloth.com

Hourglass Figure

Consider a halter, bra-style or bustier top, which provides support for bigger-busted gals. Davidson also recommends channeling your inner Hollywood bombshell with a vintage-style suit, which were designed specifically to flaunt curves. If you do want to minimize your shape, pick a darker hue. “The eye is drawn to bright colors, so the key is to wear black in an area you want to camouflage,” explains stylist Illysia Neumann-Loreck. “For example, a swimsuit that’s black on the bottom and has a pattern on top is a great option. It draws attention to the upper half of your body.”

Modcloth.com

Pear-Shaped Figure

Most women fit in this category, which means you are little larger on the bottom than you are on top. “A halter top will accentuate your shoulders while balancing out your top and bottom half,” says Davidson.

Guess

Petite

Under 5’4”? You’re in luck because shorter ladies have plenty of options to reach new heights. “A monokini is a great choice if you are slightly shorter,” says Davidson. “It will help to give the illusion of height and add curves. Also, a higher cut bottom will make your legs look exceptionally long.” If you don’t feel like wearing a one piece, go for the classic bikini.

A Pea in the Pod

Pregnant

Flaunt your baby bump with pride this beach season! Whether you’re three months along or in your third trimester, there are several brands currently on the market specifically for moms-to-be. As long as there is enough elasticity, either a one piece or two-piece should should provide support for your growing shape. For some designer suggestions, consider A Pea In The Pod, Destination Maternity or Motherhood Maternity. Major retailers such as the Gap and Old Navy also have affordable options.

Lands’ End

Plus Size

“A swim dress is perfect for heavier women,” says Loreck. “It skims the body and doesn’t cling as a normal swimsuit does, but it doesn’t have extra fabric that would add bulk.” For a slimming effect, Loreck says to choose a dark hue over a lighter one. Also, make sure there is enough ruching on the fabric to camouflage the areas of your body you’re not completely comfortable showing off. “Be sure to look for underwire in the bust for good support as well,” she says.

Kenneth Cole/Carmen Marc Valvo

Over 40

Once you’ve hit the big 4-0, a bathing suit with some coverage will be beneficial for your body, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t look and feel your very best. “A one-shoulder swimsuit is very chic and offers great coverage,” says Loreck. “And if your stomach isn’t as flat as it used to be, ruching, or horizontal gathers, can hide a pooch.”

Magicsuit/Miraclesuit

Tummy Control

You may not have a supermodel’s stomach, but a little extra tummy shouldn’t stop you from flaunting your figure. Like with anyone with extra curves, ruching will hide a pooch. Loreck also says to look for a swimsuit featuring extra spandex to push everything in comfortably, much like shapewear. In terms of two-pieces, a retro-style high-waisted bikini is also on-trend and great for camouflaging. There’s also the tankini, which incorporates a figure-flattering tank top. “The tank top skims the tummy instead of clinging to it (in comparison to a standard bikini top),” says Loreck. “Depending on how comfortable you are with your hips and thighs, you can wear it with a bikini bottom or a skirt.”

Do You Need to Get Relationship Closure With an Ex?

[ad_1]

Breaking up is hard, but the period of time following a split can be especially brutal. Early on, you might find it difficult to cope with the pain. You might flip-flop between angry resolve ("eff it, I can do better") and a numbing sadness ("I’ll never love anyone like that again"). And if you're like a lot of newly single people, you may start to believe that getting answers from your ex will help you get over the breakup and feel better.

RELATED: 3 Things You're Doing Online That Can Hurt Your Relationship

“I just need closure,” are the all too familiar words that flash through your mind. The end of a relationship can leave a dog pile of emotional baggage, as well as blunt questions about why things fell apart the way they did. No matter what part you played in ending it, you might still have the urge to tie up the relationship in a neat bow—in other words, get closure—before moving on to someone new.

A friend recently confessed to me that more than a year after breaking up, she met with her ex so she could get closure before she relocated across the country. That made me wonder if we really need come face-to-face with our exes. Is it crucial to have a conversation with a past partner in order to feel good about ourselves and move forward? Is it healthy to seek relationship closure at all?

We reached out to therapists for their take, and the answer was a wholehearted yes. Here's what they told us, and how to get the kind of closure that allows you to truly move forward.

Why closure is crucial

The main benefit of getting closure is that it helps you work out powerful or conflicting feelings that might be putting your life in stall. Terri Orbuch, PhD, a professor at Oakland University in Michigan and author of 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage From Good to Great, tells Health that it’s important to let go of any strong emotions connected to your past relationship, negative or positive.

“If you don't let go or get closure, you're probably dragging these memories around with you every day, and from relationship to relationship,” she says. Orbuch is the author of a study on closure, which found that singles who were able to say "I don't feel much of anything for an ex" were way more likely to find a new love and a long-term relationship than the singles who were still grappling with feelings of love or hate.

RELATED: Could You Be Guilty of 'Micro-Cheating'? A Relationship Expert Explains What the Buzzy Term Means

Rachel Needle, PsyD, a psychologist in West Palm Beach, Florida and co-director of Modern Sex Therapy Institutes, is also onboard with getting closure—but proposes that it doesn’t have to come from your ex. Needle tells Health that many people won't get the answers they are looking for or will not hear them in a way that is helpful from their former partner.

"While it would be wonderful to have an insightful ex who can also effectively communicate what went wrong and why, we can also take responsibility for understanding our role in the relationship ending, and thus provide some closure for ourselves," says Needle.

How to get it so you can move forward

If you do decide to meet with your ex to get closure, New York-based sex therapist Sari Cooper, founder and director of the Center for Love and Sex, recommends using the “speaker-listener” technique. “If the couple can remain calm, listen, and reflect on their partner’s viewpoint, it could offer them peaceful closure,” she tells Health. This technique lets both partners “express their feelings, and feel witnessed and heard even if they don’t necessarily agree with one another,” says Cooper.

A word of caution: When you listen to your ex, be prepared to hear things that may not exactly make you feel good—like that your ex found someone new, or they blame you for the breakup. Your ex's thoughts on the relationship might also be wildly different from how you think things went down. Don't let what they say leave you feeling hurt or bewildered. Take it as proof that you two were never a solid match and had such different viewpoints, things could never have worked out.

RELATED: 30 Signs You're in a Toxic Relationship

And if your ex doesn't want to talk? Get closure without them. Orbuch suggests looking at the relationship objectively and finding an outside perspective. “You may have to ask friends or family because they know what it was really like,” she advises. Getting their take and seeing the relationship for what it was can help you understand that it was not right for either party—and you're better off without them.

This Woman Showed How Lighting Can Completely Change the Look of Your Cellulite

[ad_1]

Social media is filled with carefully curated selfies that use just the right angle and lighting to hide so-called body flaws. That's why we love this Instagram from body-positive influencer Tesia Kline, who shared side-by-side photos of her legs—one under lights that hid the cellulite on her thighs, and one in light that highlighted every thigh dimple.

RELATED: Why This Body-Positive Blogger Wants You to Stop Untagging Your Most Unflattering Social Media Photos

“Sometimes your ‘body goals’ may not always be what they appear to be (especially on IG),” the 27-year-old from Mobile, Alabama, captioned her post. “Thank you, angles and lighting for helping me see that I’m still fcking FLAWESOME from every point of view!! And so are YOU.”

Kline tells Health that she posted the side-by-side images to make a point about the sneaky way social media photos can make the exact same body part look totally different, and she hoped to reach women like herself who have struggled with feeling good about their appearance.

“There was a time when I was obsessed with trying to get rid of my so-called ‘flaws,’” she says. “Cellulite, stretch marks, belly rolls, loose skin (from weight loss). I have used tons of creams and gels to get rid of those things. They never worked.”

RELATED: 4 Times Instagram Stars Proved Cellulite Is Totally Normal

Kline attributes some of her body image issues to the prep work she had to do for body-building competitions, which included “endless amounts of cardio” and a restrictive diet. But even after working out like crazy in the gym and tracking her eating habits carefully, her insecurities didn’t go away.

“I realized that even at my absolute leanest, I still had those ‘flaws,’” she says. “So practicing self-love and a [having] a positive body image really helped me overcome my insecurities and gave me all the confidence I could ever dream of! Now I just focus on being strong and healthy. No more strict diets or harsh workout routines. Just me, my body, and my mental health.”

Self-love and focusing on being strong and healthy—what's more flawesome than that?

How to Shed 10 Pounds (Just By Getting Dressed)

[ad_1]

It’s a no-brainer that the key to looking your very best is daily exercise and a proper diet, but did you know that your wardrobe alone could be piling on the pounds?

It may sound silly, but it actually makes perfect sense — especially after you tried to squeeze into those skinny jeans, only to end up with a dreaded muffin top. And that loose bra you just can’t give up because it’s super comfy? It’s only making your upper body appear wider than what it really is.

Fixing these problems requires a trip to the department store, but there are some tricks and tips every shopper should know for rocking the right look and trimming the figure. And according to Eila Mell, co-author of “How to Win at Shopping,â€Â she swears anyone can appear 10 pounds lighter just by the way you dress up (or down).

Fox News Magazine spoke with the renowned fashion expert on how you can appear slimmer just by getting dressed, and here’s what we learned:

Always Start with the Right Foundation

“Low hanging boobs or bras that make you look like you have four boobs will add pounds for sure,†says Mell. “Make sure you’re wearing the right size and cut for your body. Any department or lingerie store can give you a proper fitting for free.â€

Go Monochromatic

Ever wondered why that little black dress has always been a go-to staple for any occasion? Not only is it easy to accessorize, but its simple, solid hue enhances a seemingly thinner shape. “One color head to toe will create a long, lean line,†says Mell. “When you wear separates in different colors, it breaks up the body, and the eye is drawn to one section more than others — and hopefully an area you want to highlight! Going with one color, or similar shades of that color, will create the illusion of height and thinness.†Keep in mind this trick works for any color, so consider giving that usual LBD a break and embrace jeweled-inspired shades instead, such as cobalt, emerald or coral.

Seriously, Avoid Clothes That Are Too Tight

Sure, no one wants to feel like they’re wearing an oversized potato sack, but choosing an outfit that feels like second skin will instantly flaunt those lumps and bumps you don’t want others to see. “Just because you may be able to fit into a size 0 doesn’t mean you should wear a 0,†says Mell. “Clothes that are too tight will create rolls of skin where you may not normally have them. Even the thinnest women will have a muffin top in pants that are too tight. Think body-skimming, not skin-tight.†If you can’t sit or stand comfortably, chances are you need to go up size. And don’t feel intimidated by a bigger number. When it comes to looking good, fit — not size — is what ultimately matters. Plus, a piece in a bigger size can easily be tailored.

Define Your Waist

Now here’s one trick many celebrities swear by for any red carpet affair … and it has nothing to do with Spanx. “So what if you don’t naturally have an hourglass figure? You can create one by cinching in at the waist,†says Mell. “A belt is one of your best accessories when dressing to look thinner. You can also wear your belt slightly above your natural waist, where you are even slimmer.â€

Avoid Sheen on Areas You Want to Minimize

You may be tempted to try a sparkly, embellished look from head-to-toe, but think twice before going all out. “Sequins, sparkle, and ornamentation will make an area look larger,†explains Mell. “Be strategic where you choose to shine. If you want to make a small bust look fuller, wear a satin or sequined top. The same is true for color. Use darker colors for areas you want to look smaller, and lighter ones for areas you want to accentuate.â€

Choose an A-Line Dress or Skirt

An A-line is slimmer at the waist and wider at the hem,†says Mell. “It does all the work for you, as it naturally nips in the waist and slims the hips as well. You can also add a belt to even further define your waist.†Best of all? An A-line works for any shape or body, so you can never go wrong with this look.

Husband Opens Up After Wife's 'Pregnancy Brain' Turns Out to Be Deadly Cancer

[ad_1]

Danielle and Tyler Dick never thought that a small brush with skin cancer would change their lives forever.

In 2012, doctors found a cancerous mole on Danielle’s back, but told the woman there was likely nothing to worry about. They quickly removed the growth, and Tyler and Danielle went on their way.

“We were thinking, ‘Oh, it’s nothing.’ If the dermatologist had correctly identified it, that’s when I think it would have saved her,” Tyler, 32, of Goddard, Kansas, tells PEOPLE.

The couple put the incident behind them, continuing on with their lives, and even welcoming a daughter, Taylor, about two years ago. But the brief run-in returned to the forefront of the pair’s minds in 2017 after they learned Danielle was pregnant.

“We had been trying to have a second child. When we found out we were having twins, we were shocked,” Tyler recalls of the news. “We were excited still, and very surprised. But it was April 2017 that she began having difficulty talking.”

Tyler says he and Danielle noticed that she would sometimes stumble over her words. She went to her obstetrician, who told Danielle that she was likely experiencing “pregnancy brain.” So, Tyler and Danielle weren’t worried at first, but became concerned in the following weeks when the expectant mom, then four months pregnant, had difficulty even forming a complete sentence.

“That’s when [doctors] did an MRI and found that she had three brain masses,” Tyler says, noting that Danielle was diagnosed with melanoma and underwent brain surgery and radiation during the pregnancy.

“It was very hard. Danielle was very strong through all of it. There were so many things to worry about… It was the most difficult thing. We were very nervous about [the babies].”

Danielle’s illness grew worse throughout the pregnancy, and doctors instructed her to deliver the babies early so she could undergo more cancer treatment. Colby and Reagan were born 29 weeks early on July 12, 2017.

“It was pretty wild. The twins were three pounds a piece and they were really small. It was scary,” Tyler recalls. “It was hard but we were still happy… Danielle wanted to make sure she got those babies here safe.”

Danielle was able to spend about nine months with her new babies, although her illness prevented her from visiting them in the hospital some days. At the end of April, about a year after her diagnosis, Danielle went into a coma.

“She lost quite a bit of weight. She lost her hair from all the radiation. She was absolutely beautiful and she was beautiful all the way till the end,” Tyler tells PEOPLE of Danielle. “It was just the two of us at the end. It was the hardest time ever.”

Tyler says he has had a great support system in the wake of Danielle’s death on April 25, providing help to care for his three small children. Still, he says he missed Danielle, who was 32, every day.

“There are so many times during the day where I’ll turn around to tell her something or send her a message,” he tells PEOPLE through tears. “We did everything together. I want to let her story be known, I want everyone to hear it. So we can encourage people to go to a dermatologist regularly and get their skin checked.”

He adds: “Danielle was stronger than I was. She fought all the way to the end. She never had a bad attitude about it. We never talked about the end. She was my best friend.”
